About the VCCC

What Makes the Virtual College and Career Center Unique?

  • Highlights Syracuse/Central New York opportunities.
  • Video clips show local careers from the students-eye view.
  • Assesses/builds skills needed in the workplace using online WorkKeys® testing and curriculum.
  • Structures and tracks exploration of local, state and national online college and career resources.
  • Helps our students reflect, report on and plan for career choices.

Our Mission

Strengthen the workforce in Central New York by

  • Promoting local career opportunities. Many students have the mistaken impression that there are few jobs in CNY. We have many openings, especially in health careers.
  • Showing younger students that there are many career options when they stay in school.
  • Helping college-bound students match their career goals with colleges, financial aid and local business needs.
  • Providing support for students who are interested in matching skills to local jobs by linking them up with CNY trades and businesses.
  • Helping students assess their current WorkKeys® skill levels, understand how those skills impact their readiness for chosen careers and provide online learning to raise their skill levels.

Support the Syracuse City School District by

  • Facilitating the career planner process.
  • Providing support for the SCSD Operational Plan Goals to
    • Improve achievement for all students
    • Provide a productive learning environment in every school
    • Use resources effectively and efficiently
    • Develop Focus Areas: improve literacy, increase graduation rates, expand parent involvement and promote diversity.
